No Extraordinary Circumstances
If the delay is due to factors within Icelandair's control, such as technical issues, stuff strike or other operational challenges, airline must pay compensation to passengers affected by flight delay.
No Alternative Arrangements by the Airline
If airline didn't offer you an alternative flight that would land you to your destination in a similar timeframe as original, Icelandair is due to compensate you for delayed flight.
When Am I Entitled to Icelandair Flight Cancellation Compensation?

Airline sends cancellation notification less than 14 days before departure
If you were informed of flight cancellation less than 14 days before the scheduled departure date, Icelandair is responsible for compensation.
Flight Origin or Destination is within the EU
The compensation applies if your canceled flight departs from or arrives in an EU airport. As mentioned before, EC 261/2004 protects passengers rights in case of flight disruption within EU territory.
No Extraordinary Circumstances
If Icelandair is responsible for the cancellation and there weren't any extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather, political unrest, airport strike, etc., you can claim for compensation.
No Suitable Alternative Flight Offered
If you weren't offered a replacement flight that departed and arrived within specific time limits compared to the original flight, Icelandair is due to compensate you. However, if an alternative flight is offered, compensation is not applicable.
When am I entitled to Icelandair denied boarding compensation?

You can claim for Icelandair denied boarding compensation if you were unwillingly denied boarding due to overbooking or other reasons caused by the airline, provided that:
You arrived at the airport on time for check-in and boarding.
You have a confirmed reservation and met all travel requirements.
The flight is departing from an EU airport, or landing at an EU airport and operated by EU airline.
If these conditions are met, and you were denied boarding due to no fault of your own, Icelandair must provide compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004, typically ranging from €250 to €600 depending on the flight distance.
When am I entitled to Icelandair lost or damaged baggage compensation?

You can submit a claim for compensation for lost, damaged or delayed baggage under the following circumstances:
Lost Baggage: If your checked baggage is lost, Icelandair must provide you with compensation under the Montreal Convention. If your baggage has not been located within 21 days after your flight, it is officially considered lost, and you are entitled to file a claim for compensation.
Damaged Baggage: If your checked baggage is damaged during transit, you must report the damage immediately upon arrival at the airport by filling out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). After that, we can submit a formal claim to Icelandair for damaged baggage compensation within 7 days after the repot.
Delayed Baggage: If your baggage is delayed, Icelandair has a duty to cover the cost of essential items you need while waiting for your luggage. Compensation is determined based on the specific circumstances of the delay.
Compensation is generally limited under the Montreal Convention, up to approximately 1,288 Special Drawing Rights (around €1,500), depending on the value of your baggage and contents.
When Am I Not Entitled to Icelandair Compensation?
There are some cases when airlines aren't obligated to compensate passengers for flight disruptions. These include:
Extraordinary circumstances: Events like strikes, political instability, and extreme weather conditions fall under extraordinary circumstances. In such cases, Icelandair is exempt from paying compensation.
Flights canceled more than 14 days in advance: If the airline notifies you of a cancellation over two weeks before the scheduled departure, you are not eligible for compensation, although you may still receive a refund or a rebooked flight.
Delays under 3 hours: If your flight arrives less than 3 hours late, you will not be entitled to compensation, though you may still be entitled to assistance, such as meals or accommodation, depending on the length of the delay.
