Air Dolomiti Flight Compensation & Cancellation Policy Guide

If your Air Dolomiti flight arrived more than three hours late or was cancelled, EC 261/2004 entitles you to between €250 and €600 per passenger. Air Dolomiti is registered in Italy, so the regulation covers the flights it operates in and out of the EU.

Most passengers assume the money follows the ticket they bought. It doesn't. A claim for air dolomiti compensation follows the aircraft and the crew that actually flew you, which matters enormously on a carrier that runs the bulk of its network under Lufthansa flight numbers. Get that one detail right and the rest of the claim is mostly paperwork.

Key Takeaways

• Air Dolomiti is an Italian carrier inside the Lufthansa Group, so EU 261 applies in full to the flights it operates.
• Almost the entire network is short-haul, which puts the majority of claims in the €250 band.
• A cancellation announced less than 14 days before departure adds compensation on top of your refund or re-routing.
• If you booked an LH flight number that Air Dolomiti actually flew, the operating carrier owes the money, not the airline on your booking confirmation.

Who Can Claim Air Dolomiti Compensation?

Three conditions decide it. You need a confirmed booking, you need to have checked in on time, and the disruption has to be the airline's responsibility rather than something genuinely outside its control.

Beyond that, the geography of your flight sets the rules:

• Any Air Dolomiti departure from an EU airport is covered, wherever it lands.
• Arrivals into the EU on Air Dolomiti are covered too, because it is an EU carrier.
• UK passengers connecting through Munich, Frankfurt or an Italian hub keep their rights on the Air Dolomiti leg.

Delay compensation is measured at arrival, not departure. A flight that pushes back 90 minutes late but makes the time up in the air owes you nothing. A flight that leaves on time and lands three hours and one minute late does. What counts is the moment the doors open at your destination.

Timing also works in your favour. Claims for air dolomiti compensation can usually be filed years after the flight, though the exact limit depends on the country whose courts would hear the case, so a 2023 disruption is often still live.

Air Dolomiti Flight Delay Compensation: €250, €400 or €600?

The band is set by great-circle distance between your first departure airport and your final destination on a single booking. Air Dolomiti flies regional jets across Italy, Germany and central Europe, so the first band covers nearly everything.

• Up to 1,500 km: €250
• 1,500 to 3,500 km, or any intra-EU flight over 1,500 km: €400
• Over 3,500 km outside the EU: €600

Verona to Munich, Milan to Frankfurt, Florence to Vienna: all short hops, all €250. The €400 tier only appears when your booking includes a long connecting sector, and this is where people undersell themselves. If Air Dolomiti fed you into a long-haul Lufthansa flight on one reservation and you reached your final destination more than three hours late, the whole journey is priced as one, not as a short regional leg. Check the delayed flight compensation amount for your full itinerary before you accept a figure from anyone.

Air dolomiti flight delay compensation sits on top of your right to care. Once the delay passes two hours on short routes, the airline owes you food, drinks and communication. Past five hours you can abandon the trip and take a full refund instead.

Expect pushback. Extraordinary circumstances is the standard defence against air dolomiti compensation claims, and the burden of proof sits with the airline, not with you. Weather that genuinely closed the airport, air traffic control strikes and security incidents qualify. Crew rostering problems, a late inbound aircraft on the airline's own rotation and routine technical faults generally do not.

Air Dolomiti Cancellation Policy and Refund Windows

The air dolomiti cancellation policy splits into two separate entitlements, and passengers routinely settle for one when they were owed both.

First, the refund. If your flight is cancelled and you choose not to travel, you are entitled to the full ticket price back within seven days, in the original form of payment. Vouchers are optional. You are allowed to refuse one. Alternatively you can ask to be re-routed to your destination at the earliest opportunity, at no extra cost.

Second, the compensation. Air dolomiti flight cancellation compensation is payable when the airline gave you less than 14 days' notice, on the same €250 to €600 scale as a delay. Notice given inside that window also comes with rules on replacement timings, and if the re-routing gets you there close enough to your original schedule the airline may reduce the payment by 50%. Read the small print on any alternative flight they offer you before you agree to it.

A cancelled flight is not the same claim as a missed connection, so if your disruption started elsewhere in the itinerary, the rules for flight cancelled compensation will tell you which leg to base the claim on. The refund window under the air dolomiti cancellation policy runs independently of an air dolomiti compensation claim, so accepting a refund does not cancel your right to the €250.

Codeshare Flights: Which Airline Actually Owes You

Codeshare confusion is the biggest single source of rejected air dolomiti compensation claims. You book with Lufthansa, your boarding pass says LH, and the aircraft that arrives is an Air Dolomiti Embraer. When it runs three hours late, Lufthansa customer service will often tell you to contact the operating carrier.

They are right about who owes the money and wrong if they suggest that ends your claim. Under EU 261 the operating carrier is liable, so air dolomiti flight cancellation compensation and delay claims belong to Air Dolomiti even when Lufthansa sold the seat. Your evidence is the aircraft registration or the operating carrier line on your booking, not the two letters at the front of the flight number.

Full eligibility rules, the current payout bands and the documents you need are set out on the air dolomiti compensation page. Keep your boarding pass, your booking reference and any text or email the airline sent about the disruption.

How to Submit the Air Dolomiti Compensation Form

You can go direct. Air Dolomiti and Lufthansa both operate online claim portals, and filing an air dolomiti compensation form yourself costs nothing but your time. Send the booking reference, passenger names, flight number, date and a short factual account of what happened, then keep every reply.

Honest assessment: direct claims work well when the airline accepts liability immediately. They stall when it doesn't. Silence, requests for documents you have already sent and a flat extraordinary circumstances refusal are common, and pursuing that through an Italian or German enforcement body is slow work. That is the point where most people hand it over.

A claims service submits the air dolomiti compensation form, argues the extraordinary circumstances defence and escalates when the airline goes quiet. FlyHelp works on a no win, no fee basis, so choosing the best company for flight compensation costs you nothing if the claim fails.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I request Air Dolomiti flight delay compensation?

Enter your flight number, date and route into FlyHelp's free eligibility tool. The air dolomiti compensation check confirms whether your arrival delay crossed three hours and which band applies, then the claim is prepared and filed with the operating carrier on your behalf. You keep your boarding pass and booking confirmation as evidence. No win, no fee applies throughout.

What is the Air Dolomiti cancellation policy refund window?

A full refund of the unused ticket must be paid within seven days of the cancelled flight, in the original payment method. You can take the refund or accept re-routing to your destination instead. If the airline gave you under 14 days' notice, compensation of €250 to €600 is payable separately from that refund.

Is Air Dolomiti bound by European Union regulations?

Yes. Air Dolomiti holds an Italian operating licence and sits within the Lufthansa Group, so EC 261/2004 applies to every flight it operates from an EU airport and to arrivals into the EU. Codeshare arrangements with Lufthansa do not change this. The operating carrier carries the obligation, regardless of whose code is on your ticket.
