Under EC 261, passengers who have been involuntarily denied boarding to their flight could be eligible for compensation. In order to be eligible for Qantas denied boarding compensation, you need to meet the following requirements:

You presented yourself to the gate on time.

You have a confirmed reservation and met all travel requirements.

Do not present a security/safety risk

If these conditions are met, and you were denied boarding due to no fault of your own, Qantas will be forced to provide compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004, typically ranging from €250 to €600 depending on the flight distance.

When am I entitled to Qantas lost or damaged baggage compensation?

You may be eligible for compensation if your baggage is lost, damaged, or delayed by the airline. You can file a compensation claim under the following conditions:

Lost Baggage: If your checked baggage is lost, Qantas is obligated to pay compensation under the Montreal Convention. If your baggage is not found within 21 days of your flight, it is considered officially lost, and you can submit a claim for compensation.

Damaged Baggage: If your checked baggage is damaged during transit, you must report the damage immediately at the airport by completing a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). Following that, you can submit a formal claim to Qantas for compensation within 7 days of filing the report.

Delayed Baggage: If your baggage is delayed, Qantas may reimburse you for essential items you need while waiting for your luggage. The amount of compensation will depend on the specific circumstances of the delay.

Compensation under the Montreal Convention is generally limited to approximately 1,288 Special Drawing Rights (around €1,500), depending on the value of your baggage and its contents.

When Am I Not Entitled to Qantas Compensation?

Some situations release airlines to compensate passengers for flight delay or cancellation. These include:

Extraordinary circumstances: Events like strikes, political instability, and extreme weather conditions fall under extraordinary circumstances. In such cases, Qantas is exempt from paying compensation.

Flights canceled more than 14 days in advance: If you were informed of the cancellation more than 14 days before the flight, you are not eligible for compensation, although you may still receive a refund or a rebooked flight.

Delays under 3 hours: If your flight arrives less than 3 hours late, you will not be entitled to compensation, though you may still be entitled to assistance, such as meals or accommodation, depending on the length of the delay.

How Much is Qantas Flight Delay or Cancellation Compensation?

The amount of Qantas flight delay compensation or cancellation compensation is determined by the distance of your flight and the length of the delay. Under EU regulations, the compensation varies as follows:

Flights under 1,500 km: You can claim €250 in compensation

Flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km: The compensation amount is €400
